How Should I Record My Accounts?

Everyone who owns in a business has accounts.

Everyone knows that they are hugely important.

If you run a small business and are looking for a simple but powerful and professional solution to your business Book keeping and Invoicing needs, then this spreadsheet program has been designed with you in mind.

You should start recording your transactions from the day that you commence trading. This may be the day you first list your items on Ebay or the first time you place an order for stock, or even buying items with a view to starting your business.

Running a small business is hard enough without having to spend your time on the tedious elements of doing business which takes you away from what your good at - actually making money. You want to get your bookkeeping system right from the start, so what do you do?

The first question that you should ask is “what system should I use for bookkeeping?” The answer depends upon the user. There are three main options.

  1. Manual using pen, paper and a calculator. There’s nothing wrong with this method, but it can be time consuming and open to errors.
  2. Using a spreadsheet, there are many examples available on the Internet or you can create your own depending on your personal skills. Most of these free examples are little better than the paper and pen method though.
  3. Commercial accounting software. Most big name accounting software is far too cumbersome for small businesses. They will usually assume a knowledge of accounts and can be quite expensive. Some accounting software sites charge monthly fees to use their software, work out that cost over the year and get a true cost of using it! My software is available for a one time fee starting at £35.00 - there are no monthly fees.
